Scholarship Application
Purpose of Scholarship
Financial support for future librarians and library paraprofessional staff encourages individuals who might otherwise not have the resources for higher education, thereby increasing the quality and professionalism of the library staff. The Albuquerque/Bernalillo County Libraries Friends for the Public Library Scholarship is designed to promote continuing education for the betterment of the library system.
Funding
- $3,000.00 annually
- Payment made to recipient for tuition, fees and other distance learning expenses
- Scholarship will be dispersed 50% each semester
Qualifications
- An ABC Libraries employee who has passed probation and is in good standing
- Attained at least a 3.0 average during the last two years of education
- Acceptance as a student in an ALA accredited MLS program of study, or acceptance to any college or university pursuing a major in any field of study pertinent to work performed in a library setting
- Recipient must attend the annual Friends meeting, if scheduling allows, and submit an annual report on school activities to the Friends
- Must submit transcripts each semester and maintain a 3.0 or better average
Application Packet
- Scholarship Application
- College transcripts and/or resume that includes educational history, work history and two letters of reference
- Letter of acceptance into college or university
- Application deadline: November 20, 2010
Selection Process
Friends Board or sub-committee will meet and select scholarship recipient.
